💭WRITING A PERSONAL STATEMENT💭
➡️➡️For college or scholarships.⬅️⬅️
👩🎓 Stand out. Be personal. Highlight what is unique about YOU. What are your special attributes?
👨🎓 Have a strong introduction that draws the reader in. Be clear about what you want to study and why. Do not repeat yourself or waffle.
👩🎓 Spelling and grammar is extremely important. Write out a few draft copies. Stick to the word count if there is one. Use good English. Use synonyms for words you have repeated. Ask a person who knows you well to proof read and add in any ideas they may think of.
👨🎓 Be specific. Back up your points with examples and personal experiences. Write about your hobbies and interests and how they strengthen your application.
👩🎓 Be positive and enthusiastic- make your skills and personal achievements shine through. Think of what you have accomplished- school projects/ volunteering/ awards/ extra-curricular. (Don’t brag. Be humble.)
👨🎓 Outline your work experiences/ positions of responsibility; paid or unpaid. Write about the skills you gained and how they can be transfered to your college course.
👩🎓 Speak about your future career plans and how the courses you have applied for will help you with these plans.
👨🎓 If the statement is for a specific course/ college; show an interest and knowledge about the course/ college you’re applying for. Do your research!
👩🎓 Make sure it flows and reads well.
👨🎓Where to start? Do out a mind map first. Go through all of the above points and write out the main things you would like to add or you think are important. Treat it like an essay-include an introduction, middle and conclusion.
